As ties range from extremely skinny to extra wide and tie bar width is often stylistic preference, you can also enter your preferred sizing in the check out notes along with your coordinates. For skinny ties 1.75 inches is a common request, however going too short will not leave enough length to fit the coordinates.

Since our sterling silver tie bars are handmade from thick solid 18 gauge sterling silver, there is never any concern that lettering or engraving will punch through to the opposite side. As photographed, the tie bar measures 2.1 inches long by .25 inch wide and was custom cut in our workshop on a precision bench shear.

Cut as a flat band of sterling silver, the spring clip is formed by hand bending the brass strip around a small cylindrical piece of steel. The latitude longitude coordinates are stamped in the metal by striking a steel numbering kit with a hammer to create the impressions. To darken the lettering for increased legibility, a black patina is brushed into the numbers before polishing to a mirror finish.
